Wheel-Tracks

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'Wheel-Tracks' is a charming and evocative collection of reminiscences and sketches that capture the vanishing world of the Anglo-Irish gentry and the rural landscapes of West Cork. Written by Edith Å'none Somerville, famously known as one half of the celebrated literary duo Somerville and Ross, this work serves as a nostalgic look back at a life defined by horses, hounds, and the vibrant local culture of Ireland.Through a series of vignettes, Somerville explores her childhood, the intricacies of country estate life, and the colorful personalities that populated her surroundings. The narrative is rich with the author's characteristic wit and keen observation, providing a valuable historical record of Irish social life in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Central to the work are the 'wheel-tracks' of the title-the paths carved through the landscape and memory alike. Readers will find detailed accounts of fox hunting, local folklore, and the deep connection between the people and the land. 'Wheel-Tracks' remains an essential piece of Irish literary history, offering a poignant and humorous perspective on a bygone era. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
