Studies in Optics

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'Studies in Optics' is a seminal work by the Nobel Prize-winning physicist Albert A. Michelson, offering a comprehensive overview of his pioneering research in the field of light and measurement. This volume synthesizes Michelson's extensive investigations into interferometry, diffraction, and the fundamental properties of light waves. Written with the precision of a master experimentalist, the text details the development and application of the Michelson interferometer-a revolutionary tool that allowed for unprecedented accuracy in physical measurements. The work covers a wide array of topics, including the velocity of light, the application of interference methods to astronomical observations, and the testing of relativity theories. As a cornerstone of early 20th-century physics, 'Studies in Optics' remains an essential resource for understanding the evolution of optical science. It illustrates the experimental rigor and innovative thinking that defined Michelson's career, providing readers with insights into the mechanisms of light that continue to influence modern physics and engineering. This classic text serves as both a historical record of scientific discovery and a foundational guide to the principles of physical optics. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
