The Secular Priesthood

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'The Secular Priesthood' offers an insightful and comprehensive examination of the life, duties, and theological foundations of the diocesan clergy. Written by Rev. E.J. Mahoney, D.D., this work explores the unique vocation of the secular priest, distinguishing it from the regular clergy of religious orders while highlighting its essential role in the mission of the Church. The text delves into the spiritual dignity of the priestly office, focusing on the administration of the sacraments, the celebration of the liturgy, and the profound responsibilities of pastoral care. Mahoney addresses the specific challenges faced by those who live in the world but are called to a life of holiness, providing guidance on the interior life, prayer, and the canonical obligations of the clerical state. By tracing the historical and doctrinal development of the priesthood, the author provides a clear defense of the secular priest's status and significance within the ecclesiastical hierarchy.Serving as both a manual for those in holy orders and a scholarly resource for students of theology, 'The Secular Priesthood' remains a valuable contribution to Catholic literature. It provides a timeless reflection on the mediator's role between God and man, emphasizing the sacrificial nature of the office and the tireless dedication required to serve the faithful in a parish setting. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
