The Sankhya Conception of Personality

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'The Sankhya Conception of Personality' offers a profound investigation into one of the oldest and most influential schools of Indian philosophy. This scholarly work explores the metaphysical foundations of the Sankhya system, focusing specifically on how it defines the nature of the self and human personality. The text delves into the dualistic relationship between Purusha (pure consciousness) and Prakriti (primal matter), elucidating how their interaction gives rise to the complexities of the individual ego and the manifest world. Abhay Kumar Majumdar provides a systematic analysis of the evolution of the categories (tattvas), tracing the development from cosmic principles to psychological components. The book examines the concept of the 'I-consciousness' (Ahamkara) and the role of the intellect (Buddhi) in the process of self-realization and liberation.By grounding philosophical abstractions in psychological reality, the work bridges the gap between ancient wisdom and early twentieth-century intellectual inquiry. This treatise remains a significant contribution to the study of Hindu thought, offering clarity on the analytical nuances of Sankhya. It is an essential resource for students of Eastern philosophy, theology, and the historical development of psychological concepts in South Asia. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
