In Great Waters : The Story of the United Church Marine Missions

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'In Great Waters: The Story of the United Church Marine Missions' provides a vivid and historical account of the spiritual and humanitarian efforts undertaken by the United Church of Canada along the rugged Canadian coastlines. Written by George C. F. Pringle, the work documents the unique challenges faced by missionaries who utilized specialized vessels to reach remote settlements, fishing fleets, and lighthouse keepers who were otherwise isolated from community life and religious services.Through a series of compelling narratives, the book illustrates the dual role of these marine missions as both religious outreach and essential social service providers. These mission boats functioned as floating sanctuaries and community centers, navigating treacherous waters to deliver aid, comfort, and fellowship. The text offers a detailed look at the logistics of maritime ministry and the profound dedication of the men and women who served the 'parish of the deep.'This work stands as a significant record of early 20th-century Canadian history, exploring the intersection of faith, maritime culture, and social development. 'In Great Waters' is an essential resource for those interested in the history of Canadian missions and the vital role of the church in supporting coastal populations during a transformative era of the nation's growth. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
