The Great Soil Groups of the World and Their Development

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'The Great Soil Groups of the World and Their Development' is a seminal work in the field of pedology and soil science, representing a major milestone in the scientific understanding of how soils form and evolve across various geographic regions. Written by the distinguished scientist Prof. Dr. K. D. Glinka, this comprehensive study provides a systematic analysis of soil classification based on climatic and geographical factors rather than mere geological substrate. In this influential text, Glinka explores the complex relationships between climate, vegetation, and soil characteristics, introducing concepts that fundamentally reshaped agricultural science and earth sciences in the early 20th century. By detailing the various soil groups found across the globe-from the chernozems of the steppes to the podzols of northern forests-the work offers profound insights into the natural processes that govern land fertility and ecosystem health. This book remains a vital resource for geologists, agronomists, and historians of science. It serves as an essential bridge between the pioneering Russian school of soil science and the global scientific community, establishing a framework for modern soil mapping and environmental study. Readers will find a meticulous examination of the physical and chemical properties of the earth's surface that continues to inform contemporary environmental management and agricultural practices. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
