The Date of the Hittite Hieroglyphic Inscriptions of Carchemish

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'The Date of the Hittite Hieroglyphic Inscriptions of Carchemish' is a meticulous scholarly investigation into the chronology and linguistic significance of the monumental inscriptions found at one of the ancient world's most vital crossroads. Carchemish, an important capital of the Neo-Hittite kingdoms, has long fascinated archaeologists and historians due to its rich repository of hieroglyphic texts. In this work, Arthur Ernest Cowley examines the archaeological and epigraphic evidence to establish a more precise timeline for these inscriptions, which are essential for understanding the political and cultural history of the Hittite Empire and its successors. The text delves into the complexities of deciphering the Luwian hieroglyphic script, comparing stylistic elements and historical contexts to contextualize the site's monumental art and writing. By focusing on the specific inscriptions of Carchemish, Cowley provides valuable insights into the transition from the Late Bronze Age to the Iron Age in the Near East. This work remains a significant contribution to the field of Hittitology and Near Eastern archaeology, offering a window into the administrative and royal life of a once-powerful civilization. It serves as an essential resource for students of ancient languages and those interested in the rediscovery of the forgotten empires of the Levant. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
