Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'Those in the Dark Silence: The Deaf-Blind in North America; A Record of to-Day' is a landmark sociological and educational study that documents the lives of deaf-blind individuals across the United States and Canada during the early 20th century. Authored by Corinne Rocheleau and Rebecca Mack, this work presents a meticulous survey of over 600 people, examining their social conditions, educational opportunities, and methods of communication. By providing a snapshot of the challenges faced by those with dual sensory impairments, the book serves as both a historical record and a plea for improved pedagogical methods and social support.Through detailed case histories and statistical data, the authors shed light on a population that was frequently marginalized or misunderstood by the broader public. The text explores the diverse experiences of the deaf-blind, from those who achieved remarkable intellectual feats to those struggling in isolation without adequate resources. 'Those in the Dark Silence' remains a vital primary source for scholars of disability studies and the history of education, offering profound insights into the development of specialized care and the enduring resilience of the human spirit in the face of profound physical limitations. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
