The Teaching of Arithmetic

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'The Teaching of Arithmetic' by N. J. Lennes is an insightful and systematic guide for educators and students of pedagogy focused on the foundational instruction of elementary mathematics. Written during a pivotal era in American educational reform, this work explores the psychological and practical considerations necessary for effectively conveying mathematical concepts to young learners. Lennes emphasizes that the teaching of arithmetic is not merely about rote memorization, but about developing a child's ability to think logically and apply mathematical principles to real-world situations. The text provides a thorough examination of teaching methods, lesson organization, and the historical development of arithmetical theories. It addresses key challenges in the classroom, such as maintaining student interest, the role of drill and practice, and the appropriate selection of curriculum materials. By bridging the gap between mathematical theory and classroom application, 'The Teaching of Arithmetic' offers a comprehensive look at the evolution of mathematics education. This work remains a significant resource for those interested in the history of educational thought and the timeless principles of effective pedagogy in the STEM fields. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
