The First Extent of Bromfield and Yale : A.D. 1315

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'The First Extent of Bromfield and Yale a.d. 1315' is a significant historical record providing a detailed survey of two major medieval Welsh lordships during the early 14th century. This 'extent,' or valuation of land and services, offers an invaluable window into the socio-economic structure, land tenure systems, and legal customs of Northeast Wales following the Edwardian conquest. The text meticulously documents the holdings, rents, and obligations of both free and unfree tenants, capturing a moment of transition and complexity in the administration of the Welsh Marches. By detailing the distribution of land and the specific financial duties of the inhabitants, the work serves as a vital primary source for understanding the interaction between traditional Welsh law and the administrative requirements of the English lordship system. Edited and presented with scholarly rigor by T. P. Ellis, this volume is an essential resource for historians of medieval Britain, genealogists, and those interested in the evolution of Welsh society and governance. Its preservation of local place names and familial structures makes it a cornerstone for regional historical and geographical research. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
