Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'A Study of the Vocabulary and Rhetoric of the Letters of Saint Augustine' is a meticulous linguistic and stylistic examination of the extensive correspondence of one of the most influential figures in Western Christianity. This scholarly work provides a deep dive into the evolution of the Latin language during the crucial transition from the classical era to the medieval period. By analyzing the specific vocabulary choices and rhetorical devices employed by Saint Augustine, the study illuminates how his prose bridges the gap between traditional Roman oratory and the emerging requirements of Christian doctrine. The work explores various categories of language usage, including the use of neologisms, archaisms, and the profound influence of the Holy Scriptures on Augustine's personal style. It serves as an essential resource for scholars of patristics, historical linguistics, and late antique history, offering profound insights into the literary craftsmanship of the Bishop of Hippo. Through this detailed survey, readers gain a clearer understanding of how Augustine's letters functioned not just as theological or administrative missives, but as sophisticated pieces of persuasive communication that helped shape the intellectual and spiritual landscape of the early Church. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
