Capture is one of the most popular visualization tools for theatrical lighting designers; however, it lacks a much-needed user’s manual. This book aims to meet this need.Capture for Lighting Design is intended for anyone wanting to learn to use this software. It assumes the reader has no experience with the software, walking readers, step-by-step, through exercises that teach them how to create visual images of their lighting designs using the free Student Edition of Capture 2018. It also teaches readers how to use ETC’s EOSnomad and Lightwright 6 with Capture, and how to download SketchUp models of a theatre and a set into Capture.

Shawn Paul Evans is the head of the Department of Theater, Dance, and Film Studies at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA. He is a scenic and lighting designer, a production manager and technical director. His research interests include: technology for theater management, video in performance, and Swedish Theater. He leads a study abroad trip every other year to Stockholm, extolling the marvels of Swedish Theater. His most recent design work includes lighting and video design for the new production of Unto to These Hills in Cherokee, NC. Shawn Paul works as a theater consultant for new and renovated theater spaces. He has spent the last 4 years being chair of the Stage Management Committee for SETC. Delbert Hall, Ph.D., is a retired professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance at East Tennessee State University, where he has taught since 1986. Dr. Hall received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida, his MFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and his B.S.Ed. from Western Carolina University. Delbert is an ETCP certified rigger (Theatre) and an ETCP Recognized Trainer. He is a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees - Local 699. He is the author of several books, including Rigging Math Made Simple and SketchUp for Scenic Design. He co-authored The Rigging Math Made Simple Workbook, The Arena Riggers Handbook, and The Theatre Riggers’ Handbook with Brian Sickels. He has been rigging and choreographing performer flying effects and aerial dance apparatus for more than 36 years. Delbert does rigging inspections for theatres and major theme parks around the United States. He also regularly teaches workshops on rigging and rigging math. In addition, he does destructive testing of hardware used in the entertainment industry and fabrics used in aerial dance in order to better understand how these items break and at what loads.
