Moving electrons create a magnetic field. Moving electrons in an atom can create a permanent magnet. Moving electrons in a wire, particularly a coil of wire, can create an electromagnet. Magnetic fields have North and South poles; North and North repel each other, as do South and South; North and South attract each other.
