During her engineering career, Chen's stories and essays have been published in People's Literature, Harvest and other publications in China and abroad. Her first novel, Xia Ju, was published in 2002. Her novellas, Listen to the Caged Bird Sing, and Brunches received the People's Literature Award, one of the most prestigious literary awards in China, and her novella Teresa's Rogue received the Yu Da Fu Fiction Prize. She is considered to be one of the best oversea Chinese writers. She currently lives in Silicon Valley.
