Over the years, the author came to adopt a more personal approach with respect to French-English teaching of adults within the Canadian Public Service. Yet, in creating this handbook, the author reaches out to students who may not wish to enter the public sector. Contents are such that all may benefit. Subject matter is presented in a straightforward manner. Direct explanations and the Whys and Wherefores are highlighted... less academics, more core; examples are needed to illustrate a concept, not exercises. Before plunging into exercises, a solid understanding of an underlying notion is paramount. Structural concept and language codes are therefore stressed much as a technician in applying a computer language. Comparisons between the two languages are presented... which consolidates the readers' knowledge of their own mother tongue. This handbook was well received within internal circles during its inception phase as students and teachers were consulted. A credible book.
