NEW BOOK- Encounters with Wainwright

Encounters with Wainwright, compiled and edited by David Johnson the Editor of Footsteps, the magazine of The Wainwright Society, is 240 pages long, in full colour and with over 250 photographs. It contains 120 stories of people who met or knew Alfred Wainwright.

The stories range from very brief encounters to accounts from those who knew him over many years. Together they provide much new information and many previously unpublished photographs and provide the reader with an opportunity to consider Wainwright afresh in the light of first-hand experience.

"When this project was first suggested, we were delighted. Already several of the few people who knew him well were no longer alive and so it was important to capture the information from those who were. It seemed an excellent idea to add to this by showing how he had related to other people in very different ways. What has been produced has exceeded our wildest expectations. David Johnson has patiently tracked down a huge range of people with a wide variety of encounters with AW. Some of them were known to us and it is good to have these stories expanded and recorded, but many we knew nothing about and it has been particularly exciting to hear their stories and learn about the individual and sometimes unexpected ways in which AW touched their lives." (Extract from the Foreword by Jane King, on behalf of Annie Sellar, step-daughters of Alfred Wainwright)

All profits from this book received by The Wainwright Society will be donated to Animal Rescue Cumbria, the charity that Wainwright and his wife, Betty, supported passionately.
