Inhaltsangabe

Acclaimed Modernist Beat Poet Jason Disley’s debut novella paying unashamed homage to the pulp private eye noir paperbacks of the forties and fifties. Set in mid-sixties Manchester it takes in the coffee bars and Mod clubs of the time via a roller-coaster ride through a Northern city’s underbelly. Being a Private Eye is sometimes a thankless and mundane job. The year is 1965, Jake Brody. Private Eye is need of clients. When an attractive woman enters his office and hires him, little did he realise that his week was one that had to be lived to be believed. Seven Day Fool takes Jake into the nightlife of Manchester, café bars like the Cona and the nightclub preserve of the Northern Mods, such as the Twisted Wheel, all in search of a missing Polish girl. He has a week to do it, and no longer. The consequences of not finding her could, in turn, create a scandal from a ruling class not long over the Profumo affair. Gangsters, kidnapping and murder are just a few of the hurdles he has to face. Will Jake manage to do what he needs to do – or will he end up the fool – all for trying to do the right thing?
