Maud doesn't seem to have had an idea of what she did want but she refused what he wanted . . ." Maud Russell (née Nelke, 1891-1982) married in 1917 Gilbert Russell (1875-1942); she was the chatelaine of Mottisfont Abbey, in Hampshire, where Rex Whistler painted some of his most striking murals.
