Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
Lara Jo Regan is a photographer and author whose career spans the magazine, art, and journalism realms. She contributes regularly to leading publications such as Time and Life, winning many of the field's highest honors including the coveted World Press Photo of the Year. Also one of the most respected and popular dog photographers, Regan has authored six monographs on the subject published by Random House, W.W. Norton and All Things Winkle LLC. Her books have been featured in innumerable major media outlets such as The Today Show, Time, USA Today, The New York Times, L.A. Times and People

Dogs and beaches share common purposes in our lives. Both coax us to live in the moment, more in sync with the rhythms of nature, helping us to find happiness in life’s simple pleasures. Both induce spontaneity, laughter and play. Both treat us to boundless varieties of beauty we never tire of beholding. As a dog lover, photographic artist and long-time Californian, it seemed inevitable I would one day try to capture these two sublime subjects in the same frame. Further encouragement came from the recent proliferation of dog beaches, a heartening trend signaling a shift in consciousness toward the understanding that our pets are sentient creatures, ever more part of our family, entitled to the same experiences, adventures and joys. Photographing the sensuous, exhilarating bliss of dogs interacting with sand, surf and the humans and friends they love, up close and personal, over several years, profoundly deepened my own appreciation of the beach and its eternal gifts, as if the dogs were totem spirits guiding me further home. I only wish there was room in this book to include the many more wonderful dog beaches around the world and the remarkable canines who unleash the best of their playful, primal spirits there.
