Sammy spends the majority of his time romping in the outdoors. He is an accomplished fly fisherman, documented animal tracker, contracted lawn man, co-opted tree house builder, a tireless lacrosse player, and a fearless snowboarder. In his spare time, Sammy subscribes to free-range thinking, theme music composure, ivory tickling, and of course, uninhibited imagination. This story, written for the Young Author's contest during Sammy's third grade year, is a prime example. Several of Sammy's characters in "The Life of a Pencil" were based on students and teachers who are Sammy's compadres. When he grows up, Sammy plans to be a professional lacrosse player but acknowledges that he may practice authorship, medicine, or law as side careers. This is his first book.
