Our country remains both remarkable and unparalleled, but it has been changing – and some folks think not always for the better. There are many reasons for this, but among the key underlying causes are that we are an incredibly diverse nation, and we have not had easy access to the “facts.” Sure, we have tons of information, about everything from our political situation and our economy to social issues and our culture – pretty much every area of modern life. But they are often presented with bias and agenda or perceived through densely shaded filters based on our age, gender, and experience. When it comes to seeking solutions, we need to again embrace our sense of perspective. We need to regain our spirit, our confidence, and, at times, our sense of humor.Standing on a solid foundation of education and experience, author Mack W. Borgen removes the tint from our lenses and presents unvarnished data. He doesn't try to persuade or push a position. Rather, he simply brings facts to the fore and allows us to determine what they mean. He suggests that having access to an objective and shared reality, makes it possible to even find a begrudging sense of community and commonality. Then we can -- working together -- make a difference.Borgen's approach begins by creating an analytical baseline that he calls Modern America; the country from 1957 to the present. He also posits Current America; the country as it is today. This provides a means of comparison so we can look with clear eyes at where we were and where we are: we have both context and perspective. From that viewing point Borgen presents the facts relating to business, economics, and politics. For example: • Economics - 90% of all Americans still self-identify themselves as “middle class” and yet the U.S. is ranked 98th in the world in income inequality – between Cameroon and Uruguay. • Politics – Persons age 70 and over are the fastest growing part of the U.S. electorate. • Politics – The 2012 Presidential Election was the first time in U.S. history where neither major party nominee had served in the military. • Business and Economics – The $15.1 Trillion U.S. economy is still more than twice that of No. 2 China ($7.3 Trillion). Any one of these facts may at first seem to be independent from the others, or, on the surface, possibly just trivia. However, digging deeper and taken together, they start to paint a picture of where we are as a people and a nation. For those who love facts, care about the truth, and understand both the power and the relevance of reason, this book delivers encouragement and the raw materials for creating a better future for us all. Borgen's passion for setting the record straight and his caring for who we can be inspire us to do better. This book is a treasure trove of solid information we, as a people, can put to good use.

For those who care about the truth and rely on the power of reason, this book delivers hope and a foundation for creating a better future for our country and our people. In an age when political agenda trumps truth, when political one upmanship seems to be more important than the public good, and when the economy is both hostile and unforgiving, having access to the unvarnished facts about our country can make a world of difference. The Relevance of Reason - Business and Politics, uses facts to lay the foundation for gaining a true understanding of where we really are. By looking at “Modern America,” our country from 1957 to the present, and “Current America,” the country as it is today, we can examine our situation with both context and perspective. Mack Borgen's only agenda is to present a wealth of facts neutrally so people of all political, economic, and philosophical persuasions can engage in thoughtful consideration of what's really wrong and how we might make it right.
