Yingming Li, paper-cutting artist, was born in 1940 in Guilin, Guangxi, China. He fell in love on arts and crafts in his childhood. Even with no professional art school training, Li was taught and trained by two local artists Jihua Zhou and Shudong Wei. He studied assiduously by imitating the movie posters and masterpieces known then. This greatly built up a solid foundation for his later art life. Back in 1965 of the last century, two pieces of his paper cutting artwork titled in "Youth Mentor" and "Mobile Library" were selected from local art show to participate in the province-wide art exhibition and further honoured to exhibit in the National Art Exhibition in Art Gallery of China. Since then, he has won lots of national honours and awards in art. Subsequently, he has been painstaking with his art making modern paper cuts. He dedicated his life to the traditional art world even though he retired.There are full compositions, harmonious pictures, clear lines and brisk themes in Yingming’ s art works. Also some strong flavours of life and historical events penetrate into his pieces.
