In the prologue, I state that I do not consider myself a poet. I think I can say I’m a “versifier” whose efforts border on some poetic expression sprinkled with a mixture of doggerel and a healthy dose of poetic license. As will be perceived, a great deal of my efforts is devoted to political or philosophical subject matter. These are subjects better suited for essays than verse. I think of them as “versified essays”. I hope you concur.

Victor Yates was Pittsburgh born and bred. He grew up in the days of the Great Depression. His father, Joseph Yates, struggled to raise a family during the devastation wrought by these times, which included an illness which incapacitated Victor’s mother when he was three-years-old. As Victor says, “When, and if, I arrive at the Pearly Gates, and my dad’s not there, I ain’t going in!”
