Rising to the Challenge celebrates the craftsmanship of Perry Henniger. Compiled by his family, the book illustrates through colour photographs taken by John Jennings some of the beautiful and interesting pieces he made. A short biography records his life in words and family snapshots, and describes the resourcefulness he brought to solving problems. Included are an essay on the stylistic influences on Perry’s furniture and another on his craft of woodworking. Perry spent most of his life in Smiths Falls, Ontario, where he had a career both as the joint owner of a construction company and also as an artist and craftsman, constantly challenging himself to learn new skills so he could broaden the range of his craft. The number and variety of the objects he made is astonishing: from road building equipment to silver earrings, from dining tables to violins. This volume honours his legacy.
