Foreword by Charlotte Gerson who describes this book as the "bible" of the nutritional healer of the future. The original text was edited by Beata Bishop, co-author of Healing the Gerson Way. This comprehensive work brings the philosophy of the treatment according to Dr. Gerson into modern day practice providing an in-depth guide for health professionals on the treatment and management of patients who wish to embark upon on a nutritional therapy. Dr. Gerson observed that cancer and degenerative conditions were due to progressive deterioration of the whole metabolism caused by the accumulation of numerous damaging factors, among them being chronic poisoning of the vital organs and the loss of living nutrients and oxidizing enzymes. Dr. Gerson found that deficiencies could not be restored so long as the essential organs remained poisoned, and between 1928 and 1959 went on to perfect an intensive diet therapy which involved both the detoxification of the whole body along with its nutritional restoration. The success of Dr. Gerson has been unparalleled in the treatment of both cancer and degenerative disease. Even in far advanced cases of cancer he achieved a 50% cure rate. Today we are more poisoned and more nutritionally deficient, but still the Gerson protocol is helping thousands to recover from chronic illness and cancer. The correct application of a nutritional therapy is critical to patient management and outcome. The text of this manual will provide:A full scientific background to the Gerson treatment with reference to new advancements in technology that confirm and validate its principles Interpretation of blood pathology with case examples, for a patient on this nutritional therapyA scientific overview of the medications and diet along with specific indications for different groupsCase taking, management and long-term follow-upAdjunct treatments and pain managementMedical intervention“The present volume shows a deep understanding of the Gerson Therapy approach and philosophy and will represent the ‘bible’ of the nutritional healer of the future.” Charlotte Gerson

Kathryn Alexander D.Th.D., Adv. Dip. Naturopathy, Gerson Therapist Kathryn is an internationally acknowledged expert in the field of detoxification and dietary healing, holding twenty years experience since qualifying as a dietary therapist in 1987, having studied under Dr. Lawrence Plaskett at the College of Dietary Therapy, London. Through her work with patients choosing the Gerson Therapy she has witnessed at first hand the fundamental role of specific dietary protocols in the healing of chronic disease. Over the last ten years Kathryn has lectured widely in the UK, USA and Australia, developed training packages for both professionals and members of the public, and is the author of Dietary Healing: the complete detox program. In 1999 Kathryn joined the board of directors of the Gerson Institute with responsibilities for research and development and practitioner training. She developed the training curriculum for the Gerson Therapy® and this current work Nutritional Healing: a Patient Management Handbook was produced both to facilitate training and to assist patients on the program. Kathryn is also a recognised thought leader in the growing trend of the expert patient, where governments around the world are setting the trend toward the patient self-managing their chronic condition. As a consequence, a consumer-centric model of healthcare is now evolving in which patients seek to form partner-relationships with their primary health-care workers. This assists them in best practice management strategies that more closely reflect their own criteria for a best clinical outcome. Invariably strategies involve the combining of complementary and medical treatments, and medical professionals are increasingly required to have a working awareness of complementary protocols in treatment. Kathryn is now based in Australia where her self-management courses have been well received by both professional and public sectors, with positive feedback from participants who are now equipped to either self-manage their own healing program and make informed decisions in treatment, or to case-manage those of their patients.
