Back Cover: Poet and painter Prartho Sereno opens the door to a magical world hidden inside our most ordinary one – the kitchen. Here you will meet a cast of characters both whimsical and wise. The Whisk is a whirling dervish; the Slotted Spoon understands the sorcery of tears. The Spatula knows the alchemy of turning work to play. And then there are others who mirror our struggles and coax out compassion: The Dinner Fork is an incurable dreamer; the Soup Spoon can't help but give everything away. The Pickle Fork is heartbroken over the Iced Tea Spoon's cold shoulder. Twenty-six watercolor paintings to inspire and delight. Twenty-six poems to help us slow down and listen deep. As accessible as the utensils it celebrates, Causing a Stir will fold humor and wonder back into your days. "Created in the largest spirit of generosity and imagination, this book belongs in the company of your best cookbooks and your favorite books of poems." —Kathy Evans, author of Imagination Comes to Breakfast and the award-winning Hunger& Sorrow "The deep life and deep joy findable anywhere - if looked for with poetry's eyes - shine through this book. Its poems and paintings honor both imagination's wild freedoms and the hidden powers that can spring from any object in a moment's light-flash, once awakened by mind, heart, and senses." —Jane Hirshfield, acclaimed author of Nine Gates: Entering the Mind of Poetry and After Inside Flap: If the magic has fallen from your life and you find yourself walking the dotted lines of linear thought, living as if you’ve already seen the movie and know which way the story ends . . . it’s time to have a dance with the whisk.Or the Spatula, the Pastry Blender, the Slotted Spoon. Take a closer look into what’s reflected in the polished silver of their bowls and tines. In the tradition of William Blake’s illuminated verse, but with a decidedly fresh take, Prartho Sereno offers an insider’s view of the buoyant and transcendent citizens of our very own kitchens.
