Testimonials from actual patients of Dr. Tate
Sharon Lewis, Rogers, AR
"I have lost approximately 60 lbs. in 7-8 months. Dr. Tate has been very accurate in his assessment and expectations of my weight loss. He is very supportive and encouraging. I feel full of energy. My self-esteem and confidence are much improved. I feel like my "old self" again. I am becoming the "me I want to be."
Vicky Belcher, Rogers, AR
"The treatment has been incredible! I saw results the first week and that kept me motivated. This has been the easiest program I have done. The medications have worked well for me. I've gotten the benefit of weight-loss, of course--but in addition I have lost inches! And I have more energy than I have had for a long time. The most important thing about the program is Dr. Tate. He never makes you feel bad about yourself. He takes time to talk to you about your concerns and gives you suggestions on how to handle a difficult situation."
Sherry Dotson, Lowell, AR
"I'm losing weight, but a lot more inches. I feel good about that. The medication is very helpful with [appetite] control. Dr. Tate has turned me on to exercise. I enjoy it, instead of dreading it & I feel like this is a life style change I can continue. My self-esteem has improved greatly."
Donna Fairchild, Rogers, AR
"I feel 100% better--I have learned to eat what I'm supposed to. Stomach problems are gone. I have dropped 2 sizes in clothing in 2 months."
Kathy Hanlon, Rogers, AR
"The solutions offered at Tate are easy and they work. Not only am I losing weight, but I feel confident that I will be able to maintain the weight loss. The program (I hate to call it that) is so much a part of my everyday life that it requires little conscious effort on my part anymore."
Ruth Ann Borchert, Bella Vista, AR
"I have continued to lose weight each month. The first month was 18 pounds and about 12 inches, from what I remember. I usually lose 5-8 pounds a month and so far have lost 60 pounds. It has been painless also. The foods you eat are satisfying and there are many foods on the market now to help you stay on a low carb program. I love to travel and eating while away from home has not been a big problem on this program. The month we went on a cruise I still lost weight!"
Lisa A Thompson, Springdale, AR
"The weight loss was very easy. The food diary was helpful and I still use it today! The medication was really helpful also. I lost the weight and was in better shape than when I was in my late teens and early twenties!"
Patricia Butler Stillwell OK
"The medications prescribed work great. I was surprised how it kept me from craving all the wrong foods I'd eaten before. On this low-carb diet, you are not deprived of food because you still eat good food. In the first month I lost 17 pounds and five inches off the waist. The next month I lost 17 pounds again and two inches off the waist. I already see it's not going to take long for me to reach my goal weight. I feel so much better and happier."
Donna Cheevers Greenland, AR
"The treatment has been great. I had no trouble with the medication and I had no trouble staying on the low carb diet. The benefits I received from the treatment was that I lost 47 pounds, I look great in my clothes, I sleep like a baby, and I have gotten off of my cholesterol medicine. I would recommend this diet to anyone. I went through the Holidays and still lost 10 pounds. I went to several parties and functions and didn't cheat any. I took my own chips and ate what I could have and it didn't bother me."
Pamela Lorrie Engleman Bentonville, AR
" I lost 6 pounds the first month on the protein diet without any real cravings for food. The protein diet has worked very well. All together I have lost a total of 35 lbs. I hit a plateau for 2 months, but with new medication my last visit I had lost 6 lbs. more. Diabetes runs in my family and I was a borderline hypoglycemic; but on this diet I find I am full and even if I get hungry I don't have the shakes, headaches, queasiness that goes with hypoglycemia. This is not just a fad. The doctor himself is on the diet and has made it more a way of life."
Kelli Friend Bentonville, AR
This has been the easiest way I have lost weight. I do not feel hungry or like I'm depriving myself. I have lost the weight quickly and have not had any bad side effects from the medicine. I have recommended this program to many others. So far, I have gone down 4 sizes and lost over 44 pounds. I am always being asked about how much weight I have lost. There are people who haven't seen me in a while and they can't believe it. It's so much fun to go shopping for clothes again; in fact, I am not only shopping for shoes anymore. I can wear stylish clothes and not hide in a size larger than I actually wear--it's fun to wear things that don't look like tents."
Robert Harbit Rogers, AR
"I was 75 lbs. overweight, having trouble breathing, couldn't get up after getting down to do anything near the floor. in 7 months I have lost 63 lbs., six inches around my waist, and the roundness in my face. I can now walk anywhere without shortness of breath & my blood pressure has dropped from 145 over 85 to 105 over 60."
Dawn Martin, Bentonville, AR
"Until I visited Dr. Tate, I didn't realize I had a dependency on certain foods. I was able to see and understand more clearly the effect that certain foods were having on my body and mind. Treatment has been challenging and rewarding. Challenging because I had a difficult time dealing with the fact that I didn't have control over something that I thought I had control over. Rewarding because I realized I can have control over my eating habits; it is just a learned behavior and will take time and practice. Mentally and physically I feel healthier. I feel smarter and more in tuned to what my body needs to feel healthy and satisfied. You have to be open to the fact that this is not a quick fix. It is a life-changing process that takes time and focus and mostly dedication to be successful. This is a life decision for the better!"
John Rawlings, Bentonville, AR
"Let's be real: eating myself to death. Eating myself out of a job. I drive a school bus. I have sleep apnea, poor circulation in my legs, borderline high blood pressure, depression. At the first visit I was very unsure of what I was getting into, knowing I needed some help, and worrying about the money that it was going to cost me. Could I do this? This experience has been very positive. This is a very workable plan. They have helped me to make this a part of my life, not just another diet. I've lost almost 100 pounds. I sleep better, I have more energy to do my job as a bus driver, and I feel better about myself. It's not a question of can I do this task now, I just do it. Wonderful!"
Todd Reynolds, Springdale, AR
"I was overweight and on the verge of losing my commission [in the military] related to my size. Dr. Tate was understanding of the situation and the importance of the National Guard to my life. He was very informative on the lifestyle changes needed to help me reach my goals. I have already lost over 50 pounds and I am well on my way to being able to keep my stripes. I have more energy and my clothing fits better. My wife, who has helped me by implementing the lifestyle changes I needed, has lost 25 pounds and is regaining the confidence she had when we first met."
Michelle Rieff, Bentonville, AR
"[Before treatment with Dr. Tate] . . . lack of motivation, other weight loss methods not producing results, not being able to stick to a weight loss program or diet, hopeless, lack of energy, almost an acceptance of being overweight, ashamed. Treatment has been easy! Easy to follow diet. Easy to make choices while eating out one to two times daily. Positive results. Weight loss has been rapid. It has been encouraging--very encouraging! [Benefits of treatment:] More energy, increased self-esteem, improved health, lower blood pressure, decreased and eliminated problems with feet and ankles, improved confidence level, improved attitude--attitude of hope. This lifestyle change is very doable. I am able to eat out daily with friends and family without feeling deprived. The foods I am eating make me feel better. I have more energy, I can now comfortably cross my legs! I feel pretty and attractive again. Basically, I've been more than 100 pounds overweight for nine years. Several of my friends are now living the low-carb lifestyle. They have been an excellent support group for me."
Frances Spielman, Rogers, AR
"[With treatment] I can even look at donuts without wanting one. I have no craving for my worst enemy--bread. I feel better about myself and my looks, and am going out more."
Christine Bella Vista, AR
"I have now lost over 45 pounds in about 4 1/2 months, and I have absolutely no craving for carbs. I can eat whatever I want as long as I follow Dr. Tate's instructions on how much protein and carbs to eat per day. I don't feel hungry or deprived, and I don't want to "eat my way" through stressful situations. In fact, in the last 4 months, I have experienced the deaths of my father, my brother-in-law of 35 years, and my uncle. I watched my grieving relatives eat countless amounts of cake, pie, cookies, ice cream, rolls, breads, sandwiches, and scalloped potatoes. Being a "carb addict," I did not allow myself to use this as an excuse to eat. I simply made a trip to the grocery store, made some smart food selections, and prepared my own food. I still eat out quite often, too. No problem there either."
April & Stacy Turner, Springdale AR
"My husband and I had huge weight issues. I gained a lot after having my daughter and kept gaining for ten years. My husband always had weight issues since he was a child. We were nervous at our first visit, and I was a little skeptical because we have tried everything only to gain it all back. I was concerned about using drugs, and heard bad rumors about low-carb. Treatment for the first week was a little difficult. The drugs took time to adjust to. The rest of the time things have worked perfectly, people at the center have been great! The experience is wonderful. Well, my husband lost weight rapidly and his blood pressure has gone down dramatically. I have lost weight pretty quick for me, too. We both fit in smaller clothes and feel wonderful! The food program is not hard to stick to and is very yummy. If you are overweight and want to save your life, this program is perfect for everybody. I was very concerned about my husband's health, but he has changed his fate forever. If you are tired of being sick and tired, and fed up on buying bigger clothes every year, then you HAVE to join and save yourself. Dr. Tate and his staff are a Godsend and they are saving the world one chubby patient at a time!"
What makes this book different from the hundreds of other "diet books" that promise quick, easy and permanent weight loss?
For one thing, this book is born from my experience since 1998 in treating thousands of patients for overweight and obesity--including treating myself. The ideas and recommendations in this book are tested and proven in the real world as I meet with patients monthly to review their progress toward (or regress from) their weight goals and as I work to keep my own weight where I want it. Since I offer my patients a money-back satisfaction guarantee, the tools I give them had better work quickly and consistently! These proven tools are available to you in this book.
Another thing that makes this book different is that I apply knowledge of the treatment of addiction and compulsive behavior. Overeating is not much different from over-drinking, over-gambling or over-smoking. All are addictive-compulsive behaviors that, while seeming to be voluntary, are not nearly as consciously controlled as they appear to be. It doesn't help much to know how to eat healthily if you can't get yourself to do it. Many of the principles of successfully treating any addiction apply to treating overweight and, as a psychiatrist, I use them with my patients and discuss them in this book.
Also, I recognize the need to use medications in the treatment of overweight. The idea that people with significant overweight can cure themselves by simply "eating less and exercising more" has been proven false conclusively over the past forty years. For physical and psychological reasons, medications are usually essential in successfully treating overweight. I discuss the use of these medications in detail in this book.
Finally, I treat the recovery from overeating and overweight as a long-term process. While my program does get quick weight-loss results, I understand that treatment for addictive-compulsive overeating will require long-term vigilance and periodic recovery from the inevitable lapses and relapses into overeating and weight regain. Learning to recovery from these lapses is the key to long-term weight-loss success.
While this book does not promise you weight-loss that is automatic or effortless, it does offer you a method of freeing yourself from overeating and permanently losing excess body fat.
As I said, for years I've offered my patients a money-back guarantee on my services. Among the several reasons for this, two are most important. First, if someone is not happy with my care I want to hear about it from them so that I can understand what went wrong and correct it. Second, such a guarantee is a good motivator for me to stay focused on excellence and continual improvement. I've had only one or two patients abuse the guarantee, a small price to pay for the benefits it provides. (The few others who have asked for a refund are those who quickly realized that, for them, weight was a wish but not a real goal that they were willing to work toward.)
So, I'll make you the same guarantee that I offer my patients: if you don't feel that what you learn from this book is worth its price I'll send you a full refund. However, I'm confident that, like my patients, you'll find yourself using the information in this book to begin your journey toward recovery from food addiction.
