Swamini Sri Lalitambika Devi began meditating as a child under the guidance of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. After college, she made her way as a magazine journalist, fiction writer, and poet. Meanwhile, she struggled in a world that seemed to hold no meaning. On a quest for truth, she journeyed to India, where she studied and traveled with Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi. She was ordained as a sannyasin.
Called to share what she had experienced with people who were suffering as she had, Swamini returned to New York City. She is now the founding and guiding teacher of Lalitamba Mandiram in New York City. She speaks in spiritual centers of all faiths, as well as in hospitals, drug treatment centers, homeless shelters, prisons, and at the United Nations. She is the editor of Lalitamba. She remains a student of myriad religious traditions.
