The health care system touches our most extreme emotions, with the real potential at any moment to provide inexpressible joy and hope, or unbearable sorrow and pain. The fact is that when death threatens, everything else becomes secondary. The drive for survival takes first place always. Death is the Great Motivator that keeps the health care system in business. But, should there be spending limits set on sustaining life? America does not have a health care quality crisis; it is the high cost of health care that is the issue. But, has health care inflation made it impossible for families to afford health insurance? There are several major forces that, over time, contributed to the United States unique and great health care success. These forces flourished in our free society, as we cherished individual choice and promoted the sacred nature of human life. Government-run systems, however, all have this in common: They ration care to those who are the sickest and most defenseless. Some Myths, Secrets, & Misconceptions: U.S. private employers can insure 2.25 of their employees for the same cost as the government spends on one employee. Everyone wants to talk about Canada s lower prices for name brand drugs, but no one asks the question, why do Canadians pay twice as much for generic drugs as we do? The uninsured crisis is, for the most part, a manufactured issue meant to trick us into wholesale health care reform. The bottom line in the United States is this: During the last 40 years, in a single generation, we have slowly adopted an entitlement mentality. Our discoveries as we wrote this book were astounding, even astonishing. We expect that you will have the same experience.
