After five years as a carpenter and builder, Larry Janesky founded Basement Systems Inc. in 1987 to provide basement waterproofing services to existing homes. He soon learned that there was much room for improvement in the industry, and set out to make those improvements. He has since patented 23 products, with more pending and even more in various stages of design and development.

Larry is currently the president of the world’s largest basement waterproofing and crawl space repair dealer network, Basement Systems Inc., that specializes in developing and providing products that result in dry below-ground environments. The company has won three business ethics awards, two consumer education awards, many quality and innovation awards, and was named one of the “20 Best Places to Work” in Connecticut. Larry and his company have fixed thousands of basements since 1987.

Larry has been invited to a number of industry conventions to discuss his research and solutions. Larry has trained more than 3000 people over the last 16 years on basement waterproofing and crawl space repair. His articles have been published in Fine Homebuilding magazine, Permanent Buildings and Foundations magazine, and other publications. His second book in the "What to Have Done... and Why" series entitled, “Crawl Space Science: What to Have Done... and Why,” was published in March, 2006. Larry's first book, "Dirt Crawl Spaces: America's Housing Epidemic" was published in 2004.

Larry enjoys his free time in rural Connecticut with his son Tanner, daughters Chloe and Autumn, and his lovely wife Wendy. There he also builds and rides on his motocross track and ATV trails.

Dry Basement Science. Don’t let the title fool you. It’s not that complicated. In fact, you will see why I nearly called the book “Dry Basements – When Science Meets Common Sense”.

What qualifies me to write this book? I am the founder and president of Basement Systems Inc, the world’s largest basement waterproofing company. Since the beginning, Basement Systems has actively sought better ways of doing things. We are not the kind of company that has a single year of experience 20 times; rather we are a learning organization, hell bent on seeking the best way.

Basement Systems has developed a close network of like-minded basement waterproofing contractors that are dealers of our products. We have more than 240 dealers in six countries, some with more experience than me, who install the best basement waterproofing products and systems ever developed. We are not saying these products are the best because they are ours – but rather they are ours because they are the best. Without our more-than-significant efforts toward creating better ways of fixing wet basements, most of these products would not exist, as we are the inventors and developers of them.

Because we work with so many basement waterproofing experts every day, and fix thousands of wet basements ourselves (we fixed 2,474 wet basements from our Connecticut office alone in 2004), we bring you the collective wisdom of thousands of experts and hundreds of thousands of jobs completed. It’s all we do and we love it. That’s what makes me an expert.
