Shawan Lewis received a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from James Madison University. She worked as an insurance professional for eleven years before she became a novelist. Shawan recently started her own publishing firm, Jaya Lane Publishing, LLC, in order to showcase her literary works and assist other aspiring writers. She lives in Baltimore, Maryland with her family.

After eleven years of working in the insurance industry, Ms. Lewis stepped out on faith to pursue a career in writing. Her work as an author and real estate agent keeps her busy. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, dancing, listening to jazz music, and traveling. Member affiliations include: The National Association of Realtors, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She resides in Owings Mills, Maryland with her family. Help Wanted is the debut novel of author, Shawan Lewis. She is the founder of Jaya Lane Publishing, LLC. The company's mission is to promote literacy, and encourage aspiring writers to publish their works. Help Wanted, officially released on 5/27/05, is the first title published by the company. The author sold all 2,000 copies of the first edition in 90 days, prompting her to proceed with a second printing. Ms. Lewis has distribution for her novel with Baker & Taylor, Amazon.com, and African World Books.Presently, she is working on her second novel, and a series of Children's Books.
