Manuel Castells holds the Wallis Annenberg Chair in Communication Technology and Society at the University of Southern California and is a research professor at Open University of Catalonia, Barcelona. Gustavo Cardoso is a professor of information and communication sciences in the Department of Information Sciences and Technology, ISCTE, Lisbon.
