Faith and truth are allies, not enemies. Unless our faith is based on truth, it can bind us rather than free us. Faith is not a means of getting God to help us. It is the means to see that He is already present and helping us. Faith allows us to see life as it really is, life in which God is in control. Simply believing that God is with us does not make it true, any more than not believing makes God leave us.
