Über die Autorinnen und Autoren

Renny Russell is the coauthor, along with his brother Terry, of The New York Times bestseller On the Loose. He is a boat builder, illustrator, and river guide. He lives in Questa, New Mexico. David Brower was a three-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee and was the first executive director of the Sierra Club—a position he held for nearly two decades. He received the Blue Planet Prize in 1998 in recognition of his environmental accomplishments, among them his role in the creation of national parks and seashores in Great Basin, Kings Canyon, the North Cascades, Point Reys, and the Redwoods.


Renny Russell grew up running wild in the Western wilderness with his older brother, Terry, in the late '50s and early '60s. Their youthful quest for the beauty and solitude of nature inspired their book On the Loose a life-changing title as well as a million-copy best seller. A paean to wild places, On the Loose became a touchstone of the environmental movement. Forty years later, it remains the Sierra Club's all-time most popular book.
