The five stories in this collection have been collected under the single theme of intrusion. Hence, the title. Some of the stories are set in New York, others in Fukuoka, Japan, and Barbados. In "Strangers On a Train," strangers meet on a bullet train headed for Tokyo and discover that they have a lot in common. In "The Shadow," a woman is murdered while walking through the mind of a stranger. In "Two Women," two friends meet for a conversation in a Brooklyn coffee shop in Flatbush, and discover that they have deep differences of opinion. The two finally part ways on bad terms, and in the title story "The Intruder," a man is chased by his own vision up an imaginary beach.
