Genevieve (Gen) LaGreca's breakthrough novel Noble Vision won a ForeWord magazine Book-of-the-Year Award, a Writer's Digest International Book Award, a Midwest Book Award, and an Illinois Women's Press Association Fiction Contest Award. The novel's dramatic portrayal of the struggle of a doctor whose judgment and conscience conflict with the dictates of a state health system in a life-or-death case earned endorsements from American Medical Association past president Edward Annis, syndicated columnist Walter Williams, magazine magnate Steve Forbes, and Nobel laureate Milton Friedman. It is considered very highly recommended reading by Midwest Book Review.Gen holds a BS cum laude in chemistry from Polytechnic Institute of New York and an MA in philosophy from Columbia University. She is a former pharmaceutical chemist who now writes fiction and social commentary. Gen's articles have appeared in Forbes, The Orange County Register, The Daily Caller, Real Clear Politics, Gainesville Sun, and other publications.Asked what moved her to write Noble Vision, Gen replies, After years of working in the healthcare industry, I feel as if I'm witnessing the slow death of something great, something that shouldn't be allowed to die---America's gold standard of medicine. Why did she choose to write fiction? Ever since I read Gone With the Wind at age thirteen, I've been enthralled by sweeping novels that capture a historic moment in an unforgettable way. I wanted to tell the story of what's happening in medicine today---how it, too, could be gone with the wind---through the spellbinding magic of fiction. Noble Vision is published by Winged Victory Press, whose mission is to publish stories of unusual people doing unusual things, stories with something important to say, and stories that inspire us to achieve our dreams.Gen's new novel, A Dream of Daring, published in 2013, was recommended by Booklist, ForeWord Reviews, and Midwest Book Review. It took Finalist in Multicultural Fiction and Finalist in Regional Fiction in the 2013 Next Generation Indie Book Awards. For more information, see: www.WingedVictoryPress.com.
Noble Vision was a ForeWord magazine Book-of-the-Year Award winner and a finalist in the Writer's Digest International Book Awards contest, one of only six picks in mainstream fiction. It also was a finalist in the Midwest Book Awards competition and took second place in the Illinois Women's Press Association Fiction Contest. The novel is considered very highly recommended reading by Midwest Book Review, and it earned endorsements from American Medical Association past president Edward Annis, syndicated columnist Walter E. Williams, magazine magnate Steve Forbes, and Nobel laureate Milton Friedman. The novel portrays the love story of a beautiful ballerina of the New York stage whose life is shattered by a tragic accident and a young neurosurgeon determined to save her. The dancer's only hope is the surgeon's breakthrough procedure to repair damaged nerves. The treatment, however, does not have the required approval of their state-run health system, CareFree, a bureaucracy wracked with cost overruns and other, politically motivated priorities. The doctor must ultimately take on the entire health system to fight for his work, his ideals, and the woman he loves. As innovative as its surgeon-protagonist, Noble Vision breaks the mold that encases much of today's fiction. In an age in which plot stories and character studies, not to mention romances and thrillers, appear in separate categories of fiction, and thought-provoking themes are rare, Noble Vision combines a rich mix of story elements in one satisfying read. It is a nail-biting thriller, a passionate love story, and a duel of the conflicting ideas piercing the heart of medicine today.Noble Vision is published by Winged Victory Press, whose mission is to publish stories of unusual people doing unusual things, stories with something important to say, and stories that inspire us to achieve our dreams.
