Inhaltsangabe

In Mine Tonight, individuals with high ideals and few scruples struggle and scheme among the backdrop of the second Bush administration, the giddy chaos of WTO protest-era Seattle, and the moral fog of post-9/11 New York. The tricks of memory and the ambiguity of politics add the the intrigue of a tale that is both intensely personal and widely relevant. Lukas, an amoral gun for hire, finds himself embroiled in the corruptions of the 2004 presidential election; his journey and demons are aggressively rendered in black and white drawings, which fluidly convey anger, fear, and motion.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Alixopulos is a cartoonist and illustrator. He takes particular interest in how icon and narrative interact and swap roles, and his stories usually explore broad social themes while using comicsy visual grammar to evoke the interior and the individual. Alixopulos’ graphic novel The Hot Breath of War is a set of stories grouped within a spectrum of passion and aggression. It engages wars from multiple perspectives, from participant to victim, and explores the euphemisms and symbols we use as incantations for conflict. The Hot Breath of War was nominated for Outstanding Graphic Novel in the 2008 Ignatz Awards and featured on The Comic Journal's “Top 100 Comics of the Decade.” Alixopulos' art has been featured at RGB Callery, Giant Robot New York, Charles M. Schulz Museum, Gallery of Sea & Heaven, ANTHEM Magazine and STUDIO Gallery. He lives in California.

Von der hinteren Coverseite

Stylish, violent, and sordid, Mine Tonight is a story of individuals with high ideals but few scruples.

Lukas is an amoral gun for hire who finds himself embroiled in the corrupt 2004 Presidential Election. Pulp noir blurs with autobiography as the lives of Lukas and Alixopulos intersect, from the heady chaos of 1990s WTO protest Seattle to the moral fog of post-9/11 New York. The tricks of memory and the ambiguity of politics leaven the intrigue in a tale that's at turns intensely personal, and immediate as breaking news.

This is a graphic novel of a new breed. Deftly mixing reality and fiction, love and blood, Mine Tonight paints a jittery portrait of our time.

Comixville calls Alixopulos "Disturbing and Brilliant"

"Mine Tonight is a plum. No, it's the sun. It's lucid and pitch dark at the same time. I loved it." - Renee French, the Ticking
