Inhaltsangabe

At the age of six months, Anna Evaleen Stuive was diagnosed with a terminal mitochondrial disease: Leigh's Syndrome. Anna died about one year after her diagnosis. Although her time on this earth was short, Anna taught her family many lessons.

Anna's Friends is a celebration of Anna's short beautiful life. It is a richly illustrated resource of human understanding and practical tips for every parent, family member, or health care professional who must find their way to helping a child, loved one, or patient with a chronic or terminal illness. This book is filled with grace, dignity and a powerful message of hope. The story is told by articulate and inspiring parents through hundreds of pictures and in words that flow like a tapestry over eleven chapters that recount the seasons of Anna’s life.

No parent should be faced with the death of a child, yet families all around the world are faced with this when a child is born with a terminal illness that medicine cannot yet treat effectively. This book provides guidance in answering the hard questions facing those families.

Anna's Friends also has a powerful message for families who must deal with the tragedy of a loved one whose life is changed by debilitating and terminal disease. The lessons are the same no matter what the disease. Build bridges, not barriers. Take the time to explore and to celebrate life. Connect with family, friends and neighbors because they know something of what it is like to walk your path. Do not retreat to the safe and lonely harbor of your home. As much as possible, go out and live and share the simple joys with your loved one.

When the day comes that you must part, there will be a treasure trove of memories and pictures, and videos, and special songs that only you know had special meaning, to strengthen you and to bring smiles as you reflect on your lives together. This is just a small sampling of the wisdom and practical tips contained within the pages of this beautiful book, Anna’s Friends, that John Stuive and Kathleen Feeney—husband and wife, father and mother, have written for us.
