"Dr. Jay" was born in South Central L.A. and grew up in Southern California. After working in the Airline Industry for 10 years he elected to follow his deeply spiritual nature, and has worked and studied in the field of spirituality since that time. He was first ordained by the Church of Gospel Ministry in Chula Vista, California, in 1976, and served at the Church of the Inner Circle in Los Angeles in 1981.

Rev. Powell studied at the University of Metaphysics in Los Angeles, California, completing his Doctor of Divinity and Doctor of Metaphysical Science in 1981. He spent a year and a half studying at a Korean Buddhist Monastery in Los Angeles. Dr. Jay was co-minister at Unity by the Sea in Cambria, California from 1986 to 1992. He was minister of Independent Christ Church Unity/Chapel of Light in Bakersfield, California for eight years from 1993 to 2001. He served as an interim minister at Unity of San Luis Obispo, California, and at First Church of Religious Science in Bakersfield, California.

Jay has worked with school districts, youth organizations, substance abuse centers, and hospice groups, as well as doing spiritual coaching and private personal empowerment counseling. His work is based on spiritual power principles, and serves to assist individuals to overcome limitations in, thought, being, and expression.

Dr. Jay developed an understanding of the use of the principle of High Acceptance through applied studies of Christianity, Zen Buddhism, metaphysics, mysticism, the Bible, the Higher Self, Life, and reincarnation. He teaches only that which he has lived and proven in his own life. Rev. Powell is the author of two books: Acceptance: Your Power to Be Free, and Dear Son: What a Boy Needs to Know, Tools for Living.

Jay has also appeared on numerous television shows, in movies, and on stage. A provocative and compelling speaker, it is his personal mission to communicate powerful, life-giving principles and practices that encourage greater awareness of and appreciation for Life and the opportunities it offers to practice Love, and thus to advance the soul. He writes books, speaks, and facilitates seminars that inform, engage, and inspire people to move beyond limited thought processes to active acceptance of a high individual purpose for living.
