HandMade in the Northern Forest’s 365 listings showcase craftspeople, including basket weavers and potters, painters and stained glass artists, furniture makers, woodworkers, blacksmiths, sculptors and others inspired by the landscape. It features studios where visitors can watch artists in action, as well as galleries, restaurants, inns and special attractions such as museums, historical sites and working farms. Each chapter includes colorful maps, local lore and detailed contact information for each listing.

The Northern Forest Center was founded in 1997 to mobilize people to build healthy communities, economies and ecosystems by working together across the Northern Forest region. Since then, the Center has conducted research, produced publications, developed programs and convened dialogue and regional exchanges on issues ranging from heritage and culture to economic development, conservation and place-based education.
The purpose of Businesses for the Northern Forest is to strengthen long-term business opportunities in the Northern Forest by helping businesses work together to improve the financial, social and environmental well-being of the region.
