These are the stories of the men and women whose courage and determination forged the Upper Peninsula of Michigan into what it is today. This is history told not in an "eat your spinach" manner but through narrative stories told with imagination and improvisation, more like ice cream dessert.

Ben is a native of the UP and a United States Air Force retiree. After wandering the world over he returned home with a greater appreciation of the United States and his home in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Ben Mukkala is a native of Marquette, Michigan where he graduate from Gravaraet High School and Ball State University in Indiana. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War, rose through the ranks, served a tour in Southeast Asia flying F-4 "Phantom" jet fighter-bombers. Ben retired in 1970 with the rank of Major.

After retirement, Ben flew various aircraft, sailed boats, and traveled. He enjoys the outdoors and an active life. He began writing during his Air Force career and been published in several flying and outdoor magazines and various newspapers. He has published several books.

He is the father of three daughters and one son, and stepfather to two sons and four daughters. He currently lives oin the shore of beautiful Laske Superior with his wife, Dorothy, just east of Marquette, Michigan.
