Doctor Bird, a real life creature as well as the national bird of Jamaica, takes on the character of a sage who can help all the other animals with their daily problems. These well-crafted stories are loosely based on true happenings, as well as mythological events on the island of Jamaica. These are three West Indian tales, the moral equivalent of Anansi stories, presented in luscious color and all of which show that Doctor Bird is a "very upful fellow" and one who looks up at things and not down.
