A Parent's Guide to Pitching helps parents and coaches teach the fundamentals of pitching in ways young players can understand. With 130 photos and illustrations, this guide captures the best, most current information about pitching for pitchers 8 to 18. The book offers a major-league pitcher's clear, step-by-step instruction in established, proven techniques. It covers pitching mechanics, grips, and arm angles for right- and lefthanders. It describes and illustrates common problems and how to solve them. It introduces the fundamentals of sound defense and explains how to hold base runners and avoid balks. By stressing conditioning, arm care, proper training, and safety, the guide also helps parents and coaches protect young pitchers from injury. Using the timetable and the structured pitcher-development program described in this book, the parent or coach can guide their young pitchers toward a logical series of goals, from controlling the fastball to working the corners and changing speeds. But most of all, this book will help players and parents alike have fun learning how to play the greatest game of all.
