Furrows and hedgerows: My reflections of farm, food, and family - Hardcover

Inhaltsangabe

FURROWS and HEDGEROWS contains indelible memories of a disappearing way of life on the farm reflected in short stories and recipes that capture the best of the past for today and for future generations. I titled my book from my childhood memories growing up on an Indiana farm in the post-World War II era. I remember the days when farm fields were divided by hedgerows. Furrows were made when plowing a field in the springtime. Hedgerows are rows of Osage Orange trees planted close together to form a fence. The rock-hard wood from these trees last a lifetime, never deteriorating. Furrows and hedgerows are symbolic of the Perry family; furrows are new beginnings, and hedgerows endure a lifetime, strong, protective and well remembered. Each section of recipes is preceded with a short story about life on the farm in the 1940's and 1950's. The Indiana Historical Museum in Indianapolis has recognized this jewel as an invaluable historical book with its patchwork of memories by placing it on their shelves. As quoted from a reader, FURROWS and HEDGEROWS is "a marvelous piece of writing and so timely, appropriate, and well done. Rosemary has given us a book with a heart." Order this creatively written historical book of heartfelt stories and recipes for you and as the perfect gift for that special someone.
