Introduction

Does God want to save your family? That might sound like a strange question, but, sadly, many Christians seem to have concluded that God isn't too interested one way or the other. That's a curious way for people to think who profess to follow the love-driven teachings of the Gospel. If such a conclusion were true, either God doesn't love our family members as much as He loves us, or else, having saved us, He somehow doesn't mind letting the rest of our loved ones be lost for all eternity.

Both of those last two propositions being just too nonsensical to accept, let's consider a couple of more likely possibilities: 1) We're having trouble accepting the daunting responsibility of being God's representative (possibly the only one) in the "mission field" that consists of our unsaved loved ones; or 2) We haven't discovered or taken advantage of the Scriptural and spiritual "ammunition" God has made available to us. We need that ammunition because we are in a battle with an enemy who is hungry for the souls of our family members. Thankfully, this is a battle we can certainly win and one we don't need to fight alone! In this volume, we'll make the case from Scripture that God most certainly is interested in saving your family. In fact, from the inception of God's dealings with humanity, He has been consumed with the value and importance of the family. He instituted the family; the Scriptures reveal a divine thought process that revolves around the family; and as He unfolded the plan of salvation through the sacrifice of His own Son, that plan was unmistakably designed to gather entire families into the Gospel net.

This book has one goal: to help Christians win their unsaved loved ones to Christ. There are lots of other fine instructional Christian books and publications that deal in depth with family-related subjects like parenting, marriage and so forth. I've been helped and blessed by several I could recommend to you, but I must make clear at the outset that this is not one of those kinds of books. We'll certainly look at aspects of parenting, spousal relationships and other relationships within the family, but all from a foundation of helping you become the catalyst that sparks an outpouring of repentance and salvation among your loved ones.

I've also tried to avoid any suggestion that there is some simple "magic formula" to be utilized. Winning your loved ones to Christ takes dedication, persistence and wisdom. It's hard work! However, we do have help -- major help! Only the Holy Spirit can convict a man or woman of sin, but that same Holy Spirit can use you, your lifestyle, your speech, your compassion, your example, to bring your loved one face to face with undeniable truth, precipitating the opportunities needed for His convicting power to do its life-changing work.

Obviously, God will not override the free will He has graciously given to every one of us. I completely agree with those who say that God will not force Himself into the heart of someone who wishes to reject Him. But that's no excuse for not praying, or not witnessing through our lives as well as our words, or for giving up on anyone, especially someone in our own family. There are lots of stubborn people in the world, but God isn't willing that anyone should perish, not even the stubborn ones. Stubborn or not, your unsaved family members are loved of God, and His plan and desire is to save their eternal souls. His plan also calls for you, whom He has redeemed and called by your name, to be the carrier of His Word, the messenger of life to your loved ones. My prayer is that this book will help you do just that.
