Neil Hare was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1969, and has spent most of his life in Washington, D.C. He is a graduate of Tufts University and American University's Washington College of Law. After living in Paris and New York, he moved back to Washington, D.C. where he spends his mornings writing and his afternoons practicing law.

"Jose Cuervo, Joe Camel, and Bud Weiser were my best friends and they helped ease the pain of my life. I was smoking about a pack of cigarettes a day at that point. All the mental debates I used to have over whether or not to smoke had disappeared. I understood why people liked smoking so much, other than the addiction to nicotine, of course. For me, it was comforting to think that each cigarette shortened my life be seven minutes. Life was hard, goddamn it, and it was nice to know it would be over one day.
