Now that figuration has re-entered the mainstream of contemporary art, this founding father of postmodern figuration is being celebrated as one of the outstanding painters of the last half century. Laderman was an early and important model for both peers and younger painters, here and abroad. The exhibition, Gabriel Laderman: Unconventional Realist, examines four decades of his work in still life, landscape, portraiture, the nude, and narrative. The catalogue was produced to accompany a traveling exhibition, jointly organized by the University of Virginia Art Museum and the Museum of Art at the University of New Hampshire.
