Being different can be very painful. The main character if Dr. W's wonderfully illustrated, hard cover, children's book, Yoomee, is very different due to her multiple skin, hair and eye colors. Yoomee learns not only to celebrate diversity, but to share with her friends the joy of helping people of all sizes, shapes, colors and ages. This is a joyful, entertaining and artfully colorful book dealing with positive self-esteem and community service for children of all ages. Simple, yet insightful follow-up questions guide the parent, grandparent, teacher, volunteer or counselor in sharing and learning with the children. Two thumbs up for Dr. "W."

"YOOMEE and the Wonder Team"
A fully illustrated, library quality children's book.
(K-6) with emphasis on DIVERSITY, TEASING, ACCEPTANCE, COMMUNITY SERVICE AND POSITIVE SELF ESTEEM.
Kindergarten-Grade 3?Earnest, unadulterated bibliotherapy. A young child named Yoomee "has skin and hair of many colors," and is ridiculed for being different. She organizes other "different" children and forms a team where nobody is ever teased. They have fun helping others, feeding the homeless, visiting the sick, and picking up trash in the park. They agree that it hurts to be teased and that it feels good to help others. The illustrations, done in what appears to be crayon and India ink, are childlike in their simplicity. Unfortunately, they are so thickly colored that details run together. The colors are so dark that in some pictures facial features are obscured. This book may be useful to counselors and social workers but it lacks the literary subtleties of even a simple picture book. Yoomee and the Wonder Team is all message.?Karen James, Louisville Free Public Library, KY
