Sea Creatures is a collection of poems about a physician's life and some of his patients. Taken together, these poems embody the art of medicine.

After a brief time in Mississippi, Vernon Rowe was reared in the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina. He graduated from Duke University and Duke Medical School and was trained in neurology at Johns Hopkins. After five years of teaching at the University of Kansas Medical School, he entered the private practice of neurology in Kansas City. He is president of Consultants in Neurology (www.cinpc.com). In his practice he also flies a small helicopter to clinics in surrounding rural communities. In addition to poetry he has also authored plays, short stories, and screenplays. Several of his poems have appeared in anthologies. He and his wife Betsy have twin boys, and live in Kansas City

In this image
of your brain
I see each curve
in the corpus callosum,
curlicues of gyri,
folding of fissures,
sinuous sulci,
mammillary bodies,
arcuate fasciculus,
angular gyrus,
tracts and nuclei,
eyes and ears,
tougue and pharynx,
but not even
a single syllable
of one
tiny
poem.
