Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

M. L. Stainer was born in England and came to the United States when she was ten. History has always fascinated her and one summer, on a trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, she fell in love with the mystery of the Lost Colonists and what might have happened to them. Doing some preliminary research led to the idea for a series of books about these brave men, women and children. "The books practically wrote themselves," she states. "I have never felt characters so alive and vibrant before!" M. L. Stainer has written several other young-adult novels, including two science-fiction adventures.

Aus dem Klappentext

The Lyon Saga is a series of five books covering 25 years in America's earliest colonial history, 1587-1613. The story of these first colonists is told through the eyes of Jessabel Archarde, whose family was listed among the original Virginia colonists. Each story is interwoven with actual events of that time period as they happened, or might have happened, including roving Spanish soldiers, marauding Indians, diseases and other hardships. The Lyon Saga books are a fictional treat.

From Chapter 21. Should I write about the strange Manteo and how he comes and goes, slipping through our encampment, sometimes aloof, sometimes toiling side by side with the men as they prepare the boats for sailing? Should I tell of my feelings whenever I see him? I'm not sure what I feel, a certain quickening of the blood, a start of breath held, then released. It's not the strange stirrings inside whenever I see George, the longing of my youth, as Eleanor describes it, to be a woman loved and cherished. Should I tell of how I think he sometimes watches me, though it must surely be my imagination? These are thoughts I can never reveal to another. One thing I know for certain. I can have no bond with any Savage in this wild and untamed land.
